Amicus brief filed in support of plaintiffs by a broad coalition of disability rights and language rights organizations. The brief addresses the need for and consequences of failing to provide effective communication services in a hospital setting for people who are deaf or limited English proficient and also addresses the district court’s legal analysis in granting summary judgment to the defendant hospital.

NYLPI, on behalf of Make the Road New York and the New York Immigration Coalition, filed a discrimination complaint with the New York State Office of the Attorney General, alleging that pharmacies in New York City and Long Island denied non-English speaking patients equal access to their services when they failed to translate medicine labels or provide interpretation services.
