Community Integration

NYLPI works with individuals with disabilities and their families to ensure that they are living in the least restrictive environment possible. In other words, we strive to ensure that individuals are living in their communities, alongside nondisabled individuals, to the extent that it is appropriate. We also work to ensure that individuals living in the community receive the necessary and appropriate assistance and services that will help them maintain their independence. NYLPI works closely with individuals residing in restrictive settings such as hospitals and nursing homes to find less restrictive supported community placements. NYLPI is currently involved with a number of cases that focus on ensuring individuals are receiving appropriate services within their communities including the Willowbrook case and Adult Homes litigation.
